      Bereavement Counselling

I provide personal and supportive bereavement counselling based in Brighton

There is no pain worse than the pain of losing someone we love and bereavement counselling can provide crucial assistance to help you get through this difficult period.

I specialise in helping you deal with personal bereavement

Despair can take hold and although people react in different ways, typical emotions can include an overwhelming sense of sadness, anger, guilt, anxiety and a feeling that the familiar landscape of life will never be the same again. In studies on bereavement this has been termed ‘the whirlpool of grief’

      Grief and bereavement

People can often assume that grief and bereavement is something they must learn to ‘get over’. However, what actually happens is over time we learn to integrate it within ourselves.

Everybody deals with it in a different way

Grief and the emotions that come with it are highly subjective and personal. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to experience it.

      Someone to talk to

Sometimes it is difficult to talk to friends or family about a significant loss of a loved one. This can be because they are also grieving and don’t want to discuss it. Or because there’s a feeling of ‘having to stay strong’, or because as children we are often taught not to discuss our emotions.

Talking about the grieving process has been such a reassurance for me and has helped me come to terms with what I’ve been through. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is struggling.

Thank you so much for all your support. I was skeptical that anything could help, but talking about it to someone who understood and to know what I was feeling was normal, has made such a difference. Some days are still better than others but I know now that I can cope.

After being in a very dark place from the loss of my partner, I am now starting to move forward. Counselling has been a life-line.

Talking to a counsellor can really help

Whatever the reason, not being able to talk about this can cause even more pain as we try to suppress or ignore the intensity of the different emotions experienced. Or people can use different methods to ‘numb’ the pain and avoid the feelings. Some of these methods can be very self-destructive and when we try to stop or run away from the manifestation of grief its possible to become stuck there and not have any movement.

      Person-Centred approach

Counselling can be very helpful in providing a non-judgemental, supportive environment to help with the bereavement process. Some people may find it helpful to learn about all the different research and information surrounding this. Some people want to learn about ways that may help them cope and practise self-care. Others may just want to talk it through.
